MFA Schellinkhout
In the middle of the characteristic Schellinkhout, known for its ribbon village structure, the famous 33 bends and the surprising variety of roof shapes, the former school location has been given a new life. A Multifunctional Accommodation (MFA) was built on this special place that forms the heart of the village.
Just as no two homes are the same in Schellinkhout, the MFA also has a quirky and versatile set-up. The various functions are brought together under one large, connecting roof, while each user still retains a recognizable identity of their own. This creates a building that exudes both unity and diversity – just like the village itself.
The MFA offers space for 10 apartments, village hall ‘De Dregt’, a gymnasium, primary school Jan Luyken and daycare center Berend Botje. Around the building are a communal outdoor area with a schoolyard and village square, supplemented by a playing field where young and old can meet.
In this way, a contemporary village centre has been created in a familiar place: a place where living, learning, playing, exercising and meeting come together in a natural way, and where the identity of Schellinkhout remains visible and tangible.
Air-Concepts supplied the VAV units for this project in collaboration with Johnson Controls.
