A-Pier Schiphol Airport
Pier A is an important pillar in the extra quality and comfort that Schiphol wants to offer passengers and airlines. The extra square meters and eight gates, three of which are for the largest aircraft, are desperately needed to meet the current and future peak moments, in terms of passenger flow, aircraft stands and fleet renewal. Pier A is essential for the future of the airport, because it offers the space to replace, renew and make existing airport infrastructure more sustainable in the long term.
BAM Bouw en Techniek will be working until 2028 on making the entire E Pier free of natural gas, in combination with other replacement maintenance. The installation of the new climate installations will start before the old installations and the gas connection are disconnected. In total, they are installing an additional heat pump, 17 air handling units and we are renovating the existing heat and cold storage system in the ground to sustainably heat and cool Pier E with an advanced air system. If work is carried out in a certain area, other maintenance is also carried out immediately. Johnson Controls has used the VAV Units from Air-Concepts.
With its 55,000 square meters, the new pier looks a bit like a terminal. For example, there will be security filters, border controls, shops and catering facilities. And with three floors, it is possible to separate travelers with different border and security status. During the outfitting, Schiphol will adhere to the sustainability objectives and the LEED Gold certification, so that Pier A will become Schiphol’s most sustainable pier .
